Ruth

Ruth is a skin-on-frame rowing wherry designed by Dave Gentry. This style of construction was fascinating to execute and includes hand carved oars and a sliding seat. Half rowing shell, half rowboat, it speeds along while taking light to moderate sea conditions. The polyester skin is stretched tight and coated over a hand lashed western redcedar frame. It may seem delicate, but in fact, it is extremely tough. The end result is a light boat that can easily be tied to the car roof and hauled anywhere for exploring. The boat now lives in Anacortes where, we imagine, its new owner is rowing around the San Juan Islands.
