Kiosk

The Duwamish Hill Preserve, located in Tukwila, WA, is a public park and preserve on the borderline of industry and neighborhoods. The kiosk was commissioned to welcome visitors to the preserve and to provide interpretive messaging and maps. The design married natural elements, like cedar logs and shakes, and custom fabricated parts like a curved roof and galvanized steel brackets. The curved roof softened its presence and repeated the shapes of the surrounding hilly landscape. Made of laminated marine ply and using vacuum bagging techniques (see photos), the roof design was a welcome challenge and a crazy fun project.
